With Oscar-winners Emma Stone and Emma Thompson in its cast, Disney’s live-action Cruella debuted to much buzz. However, it really strutted onto the scene with its show-stealing costumes designed by the Oscar-winning Jenny Beavan. Cruella wears a variety of fashionable looks throughout her journey. Taking place during the 1970s fashion revolution, Disney’s Cruella tells the origin story of one of their most iconic villains, allowing Beavan to go all out with her designs for Cruella’s outfits in the 2021 film.
Jenny Beavan won her first Academy Award for her work on A Room with a View in 1986 and her second for her work on Mad Max: Fury Road. Both Emma Stone and Emma Thompson (Cruella’s fashion designer icon, The Baroness) praised the costuming and talked about their favorite outfits during Cruella’s press tour. The focus will certainly be on Cruella this Oscar season to see if Jenny Beaven can win her eleventh Oscar nomination and her third Oscar.
